Iphone 7 and UConnect

I am having trouble with my bluetooth with my Iphone & and 2016 Jeep Cherokee with the UConnect system. I can pair my phone to my bluetooth with no problem but when receiving a phone call and the phone is answered it immediately connects to my mobile. I can still hear through the car speakers but cannot perform any functions as hanging up, switching between phone calls through the car radio. I have to perform all functions on my device. When I make a phone call everything is fine. I tried calling UConnect customer service and they believe the problem is IOS 10. Is anyone else having this problem? Thanks in advance.

Two weeks ago I replaced 3 iphone 5s models with 3 iphone 7 models. The 5s models - all updated to the then current ios 10.2 (10.2.1?) had worked flawlessly w/ Uconnect on three 2016 FCA products (Charger, 200S and Cherokee). I cleared all three vehicles' Uconnect pairings before pairing the new iphone 7 models. The pairing process went smoothly. However, on all three vehicles I have had repeated instances of calls going through but having one party not being able to hear the conversation.

If it's a uconnect compatibility problem w/ ios10, why did it work fine on the 5s phones?

(Note: the Charger and Cherokee vehicles have both been in for oil changes in the past two weeks. Both vehicles had the latest software updates from FCA. I don't know if any of the reflashes were uconnect-related. The problem still persists.

I am soooo happy I found this post. I was going crazy trying to connect my new iphone 7 to my 2012 Jeed with uconnect. Of course I called the Jeep support line and was told that Apple had not yet provided updates to them for the iphone 7 yet and basically I was out of luck....they told me to "please check back weekly to their website to see if it is updated". I found this unacceptable. So, I read your post and did exactly what you said; delete all old pairings from my Jeep, reboot the phone and my phone paired without a problem!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

I just got a 2017 Wrangler with the Mygig system. I was able to connect make all the calls i want and receive. I can't transfer my phonebook (not sure that i want to) but I can't receive sms or text messages on the system. I am just starting to look for an answer but i am sure i know what it is already. iMessage is not compatible. Any ideas?

Also what version of mygig are you running. I am at 5.0 or so. You can get free upgrades at uconnect.com

Thanks

From the time that I have spent here, I've seen that UConnect from Chrysler has been very unstable. As far as iOS 10 is concerned, it is the responsibility of Chrysler to ensure that UConnect works with iOS 10. The manufacturers receive beta copies of the software before new software is released, and many times it requires them to update their devices. I suggest you contact their customer service back, or your local dealer and see if they are aware of any updates for their units, or if other customers are experiencing difficulties.

I just got my iphone 7 with IOS 10 and paired up my phone with UConnect 8.4 on the way home today. The only option for phone calls was to Redial my wife's number, I couldn't call out to anyone else! Haven't had time to mess with any other functions but I've never been happy with the volume from playing music from my iphone 6 - it was always WAY too low compared to the radio. UConnect needs to do some work!! I just checked and there are no updates for my 2016 RAM...

What happens when you attempt to connect the device? Are you able to connect your iPhone to any other Bluetooth device, i.e. headset, speakers, etc.? If so, then the Bluetooth is working for the iPhone. Is this iPhone 7 a replacement device for a previous iPhone, such as an upgrade? If so, did you restore the new iPhone from a backup of an older iPhone? Did you name it the same as the other phone? Did you have the older phone connected to the Jeep? If so, the Jeep may be confusing the device ID. On the Jeep, go in and remove any iPhone reference from the Jeep. If the Jeep does happen to appear in the iPhone's list of devices, tap on the ℹ and tap on Forget this Device. Turn off Bluetooth. Then reset the phone. Hold the sleep/wake and volume down buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. After the iPhone reboots, put the Jeep into discovery/pairing mode, turn Bluetooth on for the phone and follow any on-screen instructions.

Hallo ChrisJ4202.

Maybe you're right when you say that car manufacturers get beta copies of iOS to adjust their car software.

BUT!!

For me it's pretty easy to upgrade my iOS in the evening on my couch. To get my car upgraded I have to have an appointment with my workshop, I have to drive to the workshop, I have to wait for the upgrade!

For Apple it's easy to say it's the manufacturer's job. Me, I ask the question why Apple doesn't ensure downward compatibility?!

Apple complies with the requirements for Bluetooth compatibility and has the required software on their devices. The fact that devices don't comply with the latest cannot be addressed by Apple. That is why the accessory manufacturers have to ensure their devices work with the latest iOS. Those rules have to do with Bluetooth certifications.

I can upgrade my iOS from my couch as well, and I can upgrade the software in my vehicle from the front seat of my car in my driveway. I order the update, plug in a USB stick and follow the on-screen directions. Unfortunately, other manufacturers make it difficult if not impossible. Apple has no control over that.

UConnect on my 2014 Wrangler has been fine without any problems with iPhone6. Once I upgraded to iPhone7 plus with iOS10, BLE streaming audio has been sheer nightmare. The phone calls work fine.

I am iOS developer, I have seen a lot of crap from Apple lately and this is one of them. It is responsibility of Apple (hardware and iOS) to keep compatibility issues to minimum. When iPhone 6 with iOS 9 had no issues with UConnect, why do claim that it is UConnect that has issues? Only new thing is iPhone7 with iOS 10.

Chrysler has absolutely no responsibility looking into the issue because it is clear that Apple messed up. Please do search the INTERNET and see not just jeeps with issues. It is rampant and Apple need to get their act together and fix their crap.

I've seen a number of comments about Chrysler and Jeep and UConnect. You are free to believe whatever you wish about this, however this is a user to user support forum. If you wish to point blame and comments at Apple, you are not doing so here. Comments to Apple go to http://www.apple.com/feedback Most troubleshooting with UConnect has to do with restoring a new iPhone with the backup of the old phone. That tends to confuse the UConnect system. Deleting the old device from the UConnect listing, removing the vehicle from the iPhone listing, then resetting network settings an doing a reset on the phone generally fixes it. However, an INTERNET SEARCH will also reveal that UConnect systems are rarely updated to the latest Bluetooth technology which is what Apple has to comply with. And I'm sorry, but all manufacturers have the responsibility to comply with the technology provided with the phone, not the other way around.

You have no proof that UConnect is the problem and neither do I have any proof that iOS10 and iPhone 7 is the problem. However, simple deductive reasoning that iPhone 6+ with both iOS8 and iOS9 had no streaming audio issue and now I have streaming audio issue with iPhone 7+ with iOS10 only proves that the problem is NOT UConnect.

One last thing, the INTERNET SEARCH came up with nothing regarding bluetooth driver behind on UConnect. UConnect is indeed compliant with Core 4.2. The Core 4.2 is industry standard and only 2 years old. There is absolutely no need to update bluetooth driver on UConnect. Once again due to the fact that it worked fine on iPhone 6 plus.

Cheers and thanks for your expertise....

For what it is worth, I am not very savvy user and an iPhone 7s activated from scratch without an existing legacy iPhone paired perfectly system is perfectly integrated with uconnect. I had heard of some issues related to device changes, so I waited for two weeks for an overdue phone upgrade rather than pair my 6. Works as well as the ford with Insynch which is my only frame of reference.
